New Wytheville Treatment Center Combating Substance Abuse
WYTHEVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — A new treatment center in Wytheville is hoping to combat substance abuse.
“People are dying. They’re dying from overdose. It happens every day,” said Dr. Margaret Gregorczyk, a physician from SaVida Health.
The main concern is opioids.
According to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), more than 1,000 people died of opioid overdoses in 2018.
In Wytheville, it is a similar story.
“Everyone in our community, in one way or another, as been touched in some way.”
But now, health officials are hoping to change that with the help of a new treatment center provided by SaVida Health, a leader in treatment for substance use disorder.
“It is starting to grow a rapid pace. Normally, you wouldn’t see that many initials or patients coming through the doors that quick,” said Sylvia White, Center Administrator for SaVida Health in Southwest Virginia.
