Patient Paint Night at SaVida Health
Art has the power to change people’s outlook on life and it enriches their world experience. Every artist knows that putting brush to canvas can be incredibly relaxing, but the benefits to your mental health go far deeper than that. Evidence suggests that creating visual arts can have a profound effect on your mental health and well being. An artist will tell you that there’s nothing more soothing and relaxing than getting into the flow of a good painting. It takes your mind off life’s daily challenges and can have a calming effect that can be compared to meditation.
Our Springfield, MA patients and staff thoroughly enjoyed that same peace and relaxation during a recent Patient Paint Night. Genuine laughter, smiles, camaraderie, and healthy doses of pride were evident as the many blank canvasses transformed into show worthy art pieces. It wasn’t all fun and games. Behind those bright smiles and positive vibes, there was serious competition to come up with the best brushstrokes from the group’s interpretation of the Love Birds, by Robert Douglas Given.
“Sitting together and sharing things” is one of our favorite descriptions for this art piece. It’s very fitting for this special night and setting. Just look at the pictures and you’ll easily realize why. After cleaning up our paint brushes, we shared deliciously hot pizza and soothing refreshments. It was such a wonderful experience for everyone involved. There were no clear winners, as each painting was uniquely frame-worthy.
